Lin Gu

About Me

“She plays with rare purity and grace”. This was how the legendary Constance Keene

described the artistry of Lin Gu after hearing her perform at the 92nd St. Y in NYC.

Lin Gu was born into a musical family being considerably influenced by her mother,

also a professional pianist.  She began studying piano at age six with the eminent

Chinese pedagogue Chen Yun Xian. In 1986, when she was ten, she entered Tian Jin

City's Junior Piano Competition for pianists under age fifteen and came away with

First Prize. She was subsequently accepted into the intensive piano program of the Tian

Jin Pre-College Conservatory. At age eighteen she continued her studies at the Central

Conservatory in Beijing and earned her Bachelors Degree in 1999.  Lin Gu Studied with Li

Qi Fang and Guo Zhi Hong and had masterclasses with the venerable Zhou Guang Ren,

who praised her playing as “lovely” and “elegant”. After graduating with honors in piano

performance she began teaching piano at the respected Bao Hui Qiao Piano Institute.

In 2000 she arrived in New York City to study at the Mannes College of Music and

later at the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music where she earned a Masters Degree

in Piano Performance, studying there with Michael Rogers and Jeffrey Biegel.  Since

arriving in NYC she has continued to build her reputation as pianist and teacher having

served on the faculty at Brooklyn College Continuing Education Department and

also performing regularly as a solo artist.
